Letter "Uu" Recognition Craft Projects

We spend one week reinforcing each letter with crafts and activities after it is introduced.

"Uu" is for Umbrella
Use a toothbrush to dip in blue paint and flick with your thumb to make the rain spatter on the page.

"Uu" is for Umbrella - Collage

Use cupcake liners folded in half to make umbrellas. I used construction paper to cut out the little handles but you could also draw them on.

U is for Upside Down
Find random things in magazines and glue them to a sheet of paper upside down

First-School Letter Uu page

Carl's Corner Letter U- This comes with a sheet to color, cut, and paste to the letter.

Letter U Sponge Painting
Invest in some Alphabet and misc. sponges for crafts like this. They are about $2 or $3 per bag at Walmart. Also available from school supply stores. We use ours to make a page like this for every letter we are learning from September through May. Parents are encouraged to take them home and post them where the child can see and practice every day. When we finish the entire alphabet they can make them into a book or put them into a binder.

Group Time Activity

What's Under the Umbrella?

Bring in a variety of objects and place them in a box or bag. Then open an umbrella and place it in front of you. Tell children they will be guessing what's under the umbrella from clues you provide. Emphasize that the words "under" and "umbrella" begin with the letter u. Then hide an object under the umbrella. Give simple clues such as "it's yellow" "You write with it" (pencil). Give volunteers turns at hiding objects and giving clues to classmates.
